RIAT returns to mark 50 display seasons of the RAF display team, the Red Arrows. Add in displays from Frecce Tricolori, Patrouille de France, Patrouille Suisse and the Breitling Jet Team display teams, and you have a classic airshow.
Additional display items included Typhoon, Chinook, F-16, Su-30, F/A-18C, Tornado, AMX, Gripen and BBMF.
A great kick off to the 2014 airshow season, with stunning displays by the Typhoon (with invasion stripes!), Patrouille de France and healthy spattering of warbirds.
Probably the UK’s centre for historic aviation and is the UK’s largest aviation musuem. Duxford is a former RAF (& USAAF) WW1 and WW2 airfield, which became home to the Imperial War Museum in the 1970’s. Many of the original structures remain and now house the museum’s collection but the airfield is also home to a number of warbird restorers and operators including the Fighter Collection (TFC), the Aircraft Restoration Company and the Old Flying Machine Company (OFMC).
First visit to this renowned aviation museum in Nottinghamshire. Located on the former RAF Winthorpe, the collection now includes a wide collection of former RAF types including English Electric Lightning, Avro Vulcan, Handley Page Hastings, Avro Shackleton, Gloster Meteor, Gloster Javelin plus many more. It is certainly worthy of a visit.
Located on the former RAF Elvington with a number of the original RAF buildings used by the museum including the control tower, this place oozes character and history.
An interesting collection including Victor “Lusty Lindy” (still in taxi condition), Nimrod, Harrier, Lightning, and Halifax.
A great holiday on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, off the North East coast of Scotland.
Another enjoyable end to RIAT with a chance to see the static display aircraft depart.

A return to Europe’s premier warbird air display hosted by TFC at Duxford.
With a forecast of lovely warm sunshine and blue skies on a Bank Holiday weekend (almost a unheard of in the UK), there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity of attending an airshow.
Theme for the show was the 60th anniversary of the USAAF arriving at Duxford in 1943, and there was a special appearance by Col. Clarence “Bud” Anderson, who ended the war as a triple ace. Displays included the Red Arrows in formation with warbirds, P-51C Princess Elizabeth, P-47 Thunderbolt, P-40 Warhawk, Hunter.
