Museum: Fleet Air Arm Museum

A first (serious) visit to this excellent museum.  Why serious, I had previously visited Yeovilton as a small boy when as a family we used it as as stopover to break up the journey from Kent down to Devon & Cornwall on summer holidays.  However, this was first visit armed with a camera and more knowledge & interest than a little kid with big dreams!

Highlights included BAC Concorde prototype, Westland Wyvern and a superb carrier experience.

Airshow: RIAT 2002 Departures

Another frantic departures day, and for me often the best way to view aircraft that had been in the static park.  With the show marking the centenary of flight, the collection of aircraft was more diverse than previous years.

Notable highlights included Hawker Hunter, Douglas DC-4, Boeing 727, Folland Gnat and Vickers VC-10.

Airshow: RIAT 2002 Display

The world’s largest military airshow at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire celebrated the centenary of flight.  This year saw a return to Fairford following a temporary relocation to RAF Cottesmore to allow for runway & hard stand upgrades at Fairford.

Notable highlights included F-117 Stealth Fighter, USAF Heritage Flight, Bristol Blenheim appearing alongside the Lancaster and display teams including Patrouille Suisse, Frecce Tricolori, Red Arrows and Patrulla Aguila.

Photo Shoot: RAF Valley Photo Day 2002

Shots from the RAF Valley Photo Day organised by the Valley Aviation Society (VAS).

A day spent split between trying to get some decent shots in very grey and wet weather and trying to get updates in the score from England vs Argentina in the 2002 World Cup from Japan.  Highlights form the day included the Italian Air Force F-104 Starfighters and USAF F-16 from Aviano AB.

Airshow: Southport 2001

First visit to this seaside airshow, in Lancashire, UK.  Aircraft transit to the show to display or operate out of nearby Blackpool Airport.

Highlights of the display included Hawker Hunter “Miss Demeanour”, the Army’s Blue Eagles and Navy Historic Flight’s Fairey Swordfish.
